Academic Bank of Credits (ABC)

The Government of India, under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, has introduced the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) system to provide academic flexibility to students across the nation. The ABC enables students to choose and modify their educational paths, link diverse disciplines, and build strong academic foundations aligned with their ambitions.

The Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) is a digital educational platform designed to facilitate seamless mobility between or within degree-granting Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). It operates through a formal system of credit recognition, accumulation, transfer, and redemption to promote flexible and distributed learning.

Students can register for a unique ABC ID, access an interactive dashboard to monitor their credit accumulation, and initiate a choice-based credit transfer mechanism. The self-registration module ensures accurate identification and smooth credit verification.

  • Registration for a unique ABC ID (shareable with academic institutions).
  • Viewing total accumulated credits in a single dashboard.
  • Selecting multiple credits for transfer or redemption.
  • Tracking transfer request status.
  • Reinitiating credit transfer as per requirement.

Benefits of ABC

  • Increases students' freedom in choosing courses and academic pathways.
  • Allows students to exit at any year and convert earned credits into a certificate/diploma (if eligible).
  • Enables students to redeem credits and rejoin the same or another institution later.
  • Prevents institutions from retaining students against their will.
  • Students must provide their ABC ID to institutions to enable credit uploads on DigiLocker – National Academic Depository.
