Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers Inc. (IEEE) Student Branch

With a membership of above 4,00,000 (including more than 75,000 student members), the Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers Inc. (IEEE) is the world’s largest professional body of engineers and its past dates as far back as 1884, almost to the beginnings of Electrical Engineering. The Student Branch of this professional society has been functioning at this institute since June 2002. This Branch has provided an opportunity for our students to meet and learn from fellow students, as well as faculty members and professionals in the field. The establishment of the IEEE Student Branch is considered as one of the most positive elements in the departments of Electronics &Telecommunication Engg., Computers & Information Technology. Listed below are a few programs and projects that keep students interested in the Branch and its activities and their chosen profession.

  • Establishment of a Student Branch Library with IEEE publications at a heavily subsidized rate.
  • Access to IEEE online resources.
  • Establishment of a world wide web home page.
  • Participation in regional conferences, leadership training workshops, etc. to develop leadership, interpersonal and team building skills.
  • Participation in awards, scholarships and project/design programs and student paper contests.

Apart from this, the IEEE Bombay Section, since 2008 has initiated a unique programme called Job Fair which helps the IEEE student members in getting placement.

Since its establishment, the IEEE Student Branch has been instrumental in organizing a host of technical activities at Branch level as well as at State and National levels. Listed below are few among them.

The Student Branch has been taking active part in various activities organized by the IEEE Bombay and Pune Sections also. Since 2004, members of the student branch have been actively participating in the “Students Awareness Contest” organized by the IAS/PES Society of IEEE Bombay Section. Three times they have won Prizes at National level (in 2005, 2009 and 2011)
